WhatsApp Business API setup: connecting your number to Tiram
Quick answer
Tiram connects to your own WhatsApp Business number two ways: a one-click 'Connect with Facebook' guided setup, or a manual four-value setup for teams that want direct control over their Meta app. Either way, a phone number not already active on WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business is required, and the whole capability — connecting, sending, and diagnostics — is included from the Gold plan.

Workflow step
Before you start: what you need
A Meta (Facebook) personal account and a Meta Business account, since a verified business unlocks higher sending limits; and a phone number that can receive an SMS or call and is not currently active on the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app — Meta requires a clean number to register.
Workflow step
Quick connect: 'Connect with Facebook'
In Settings → WhatsApp, Quick connect opens a secure Meta popup — sign in, choose your business and phone number, and you're done, with no tokens or app secrets to copy. Behind the scenes, Tiram exchanges Meta's authorization code for a non-expiring access token, subscribes to your WhatsApp Business Account for webhook delivery, and verifies the connection is actually reachable before marking it active — so a half-working setup is never silently saved.
Workflow step
Manual setup, step by step
The advanced path takes about ten minutes: create a Meta app (type 'Business') with the WhatsApp product added; from WhatsApp → API Setup, copy your Phone number ID and WhatsApp Business Account ID; create a permanent access token under Business Settings → System Users with messaging and management permissions (the 24-hour token on the API Setup screen is for testing only); copy your App secret from App Settings → Basic, used to verify Meta's webhook signatures; paste all four values into Tiram and connect — Tiram verifies them with Meta before saving; then set the callback URL and verify token Tiram shows you under WhatsApp → Configuration, and subscribe to the 'messages' field to enable delivery receipts and inbound opt-outs.
Workflow step
Connecting on the offline desktop app
The same five setup steps work identically on the Windows/Mac desktop app — sending invoices and campaigns is fully supported. Only the delivery webhook (the final step) needs a public URL the desktop install doesn't have, so delivery and read receipts aren't available (a message's status shows only as far as 'Sent'), and opt-outs are managed manually under Contacts instead.
Workflow step
Checking connection health and diagnosing problems
A Channel health card on the WhatsApp hub page shows delivery rate, read rate, recent failures, and opt-outs over a rolling window, plus a Connected status badge and any pending or rejected templates. For deeper troubleshooting, the Diagnostics page lists every raw webhook event Meta has sent — received time, kind, whether it processed successfully, and any error — so a broken delivery link can be caught before a customer simply never gets their bill.

Which Tiram plan includes WhatsApp Business setup?
Connecting a WhatsApp Business number — and every WhatsApp capability built on it, including sending, templates, campaigns, and diagnostics — is included from the Gold plan (and Platinum); the Silver plan does not include WhatsApp.
Quick answers
- How do I connect my WhatsApp Business number to Tiram?
- Either a one-click 'Connect with Facebook' guided setup, or a manual setup pasting four values (Phone number ID, WhatsApp Business Account ID, access token, and app secret) from your own Meta app.
- What do I need before connecting WhatsApp Business?
- A Meta personal account and Business account, and a phone number that isn't already active on WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business.
- Can I check if my WhatsApp connection is healthy?
- Yes — a Channel health card shows delivery rate, read rate, failures, and opt-outs, and a Diagnostics page lists every raw webhook event for troubleshooting.
- Do I need Gold to connect WhatsApp Business?
- Gold and Platinum; Silver does not include WhatsApp.
FAQs
- What's the difference between the two WhatsApp connection methods?
- Connect with Facebook is a guided popup needing no manual values; the manual method pastes four values from your own Meta Business app, giving direct control.
- Does WhatsApp connection work the same on the desktop app?
- Sending works identically; only delivery/read receipts need a public webhook URL the desktop app doesn't have, so message status shows only up to 'Sent' there.
- What if my WhatsApp access token expires?
- Tiram surfaces a clear reconnect prompt in Settings → WhatsApp when a token has expired or been revoked.
- Where do I see if WhatsApp messages are actually being delivered?
- The Channel health card on the WhatsApp hub page, and the Diagnostics page for a raw per-event view.
- Which plan do I need to connect WhatsApp Business?
- Gold or Platinum.
