Chase what you're owed on WhatsApp

Open your defaulter list, press Remind all, and every customer who owes you gets one WhatsApp message carrying their running balance and your UPI ID. Anyone with no phone number, anyone who has opted out, and anyone who has already settled is skipped — and you are told how many, and why.

Where you start
The Defaulter List tab of the receivables report, or a single customer's page
Message class
Utility — Meta's cheaper category, not a marketing blast
Per request
Up to 50 customers; a longer list continues in batches on its own

When to run this play

A reminder is worth sending when it is specific, current and easy to act on. These are the four moments it is all three.

The month has closed and the khata is long
Send the whole defaulter list one message each, in one action, instead of working down a list of phone calls over three evenings.
One customer has drifted past 60 days
Remind that customer alone from their own page. The message quotes their live balance, so you are not the one arguing about the number.
You are about to pick up the phone
Send the reminder first. A message with the amount and a UPI ID in it can be paid at 10pm; a phone call cannot.
You have already chased and can't remember when
Every delivered reminder is written into that customer's credit ledger, so the last chase has a date on it.

What your customer actually receives

One short WhatsApp message from your own business number. No app to install, no link to log in to, no attachment to open.

From your own WhatsApp Business number

Hello Kumar,

Your outstanding balance with Ravi Traders is ₹8,450.

You can pay by UPI to ravitraders@upi. Once paid, we'll confirm on WhatsApp.

Thank you.

The outstanding amount
The customer's running khata total, read live when the message is built — never a figure someone typed in by hand.
Your UPI ID
The UPI ID saved on your business profile. Money lands in your own bank account: no payment gateway to sign up for, no percentage cut, no settlement wait.
The customer's name
From the customer record, so a bulk send still reads as one message to one person.
Your business name
From your business profile — the customer knows which shop is asking before they open the thread.

The wording is yours. The message is built from a utility template you write once and Meta approves; Tiram only fills the placeholders per customer. Start from the ready-made Payment reminder starter template and edit it to sound like your shop.

The play, step by step

Two one-time setup steps, then it is a single action for the rest of the year.

  1. Save your UPI ID once

Put your UPI ID on your business profile. Every reminder from then on carries it automatically, so the customer never has to ask where to send the money.

  2. Get a reminder template approved

On the WhatsApp Templates screen, start from the Payment reminder starter, adjust the wording, and submit it to Meta. Approval is usually minutes for a plain utility message.

  3. Mark it as your reminder template

Choose Set as reminder template on the approved one. That designation is what the Remind buttons use, so you pick the wording once rather than at every send.

  4. Open the list of who owes you

Go to the receivables report and switch to the Defaulter List tab. It is already sorted by what is owed and how late it is, so the list you are about to message is the list you would have called anyway.

  5. Remind one, or remind all

Remind on a single row messages that one customer. Remind all messages everyone on the list, 50 at a time, continuing by itself until the list is done.

  6. Read the result, not just the spinner

You get a per-customer outcome — for example 12 reminded, plus 3 skipped — no phone number saved. That is the number to act on: three customers to collect a phone number from next time they walk in.

Who does not get the message

A bulk reminder is only trustworthy if it refuses to send the wrong ones. Every customer skipped comes back with a reason, so a partial result is a readable result rather than a mystery.

Skip reasons returned per customer by a one-tap or bulk reminder.
CustomerWhat happensWhy

No phone number saved

Skipped, reported as no phone number saved

There is nothing to send to. Reporting it is more useful than silently sending 9 of 12.

Phone number can't be used for WhatsApp

Skipped, reported as phone number isn't usable

A malformed or incomplete number is caught before Meta is called, so it costs you nothing.

Replied STOP at some point

Skipped, reported as opted out

Meta technically permits utility messages to opted-out customers. Tiram still refuses: one report from an annoyed customer damages the number quality that every other message depends on.

Nothing outstanding right now

Skipped, reported as nothing outstanding

The balance is checked at send time, not when the list was drawn. A customer who paid this morning is not asked again this evening.

Meta's daily send limit reached mid-batch

The rest of the batch is skipped as daily WhatsApp send limit reached

Pushing past Meta's per-day conversation cap is how a number gets flagged. The batch stops instead, and you can resume tomorrow.

Your own spend ceiling reached mid-batch

The rest of the batch is skipped as WhatsApp budget reached

The cap you set is a hard stop, not a warning. Sending stops before the bill grows.

What each reminder leaves behind

A chase you can't prove is a chase you will repeat. Every delivered reminder writes itself into three places you already read.

A line in the customer's khata

The credit ledger gets a Reminder sent event, dated, sitting between the invoices and payments it is chasing. Open the customer and you can see when you last asked.

A delivery status you can check

Each message moves through Queued → Sent → Delivered → Read, so "I never got it" is answerable. On the desktop app the status stops at Sent, because delivery receipts need a public webhook.

An entry in the audit trail

Who sent reminders, when, and the sent/skipped/failed counts — useful when a staff member sends and the owner asks later.

A per-customer result, not a batch total

The response names every customer and what happened to them, which is what makes the skip reasons above actionable rather than decorative.

What stops this going wrong

Sending money-related messages in bulk is exactly where software should be cautious. Five things are true by design.

  • Nothing sends on a timer. There is no scheduler behind reminders — a message goes out because a person pressed a button. The app cannot decide to chase your customers overnight.

  • Opt-outs always win, even for utility messages, and even in a bulk run.

  • Your spend ceiling is enforced first. Set a monthly, weekly or daily cap for utility messages, separately from marketing ones, and sending stops at the cap.

  • Meta's daily conversation limit is respected automatically, so a long defaulter list can't get your number throttled or flagged.

  • Reminders are customer-level, never invoice-level. Shop credit is a running khata: quoting one bill number invites "I already paid that one" while the total is still owed. The total is both the honest number and the harder one to argue with.

Which plan includes WhatsApp payment reminders

WhatsApp payment reminders are part of Tiram's WhatsApp module, which is included on the Gold and Platinum plans. The Silver plan does not include WhatsApp sending of any kind.

The parts this play reads from — the customer credit ledger, the receivables aging report and the Defaulter List — are on every plan including Silver. It is the WhatsApp send itself that needs Gold or above. The gate is identical on the cloud app and on the offline Windows/Mac desktop app.

FAQs

How do I send a payment reminder to all my customers at once?
Open the receivables report, switch to the Defaulter List tab, and choose Remind all. Tiram sends one WhatsApp message per customer, 50 per request, continuing until the list is finished.
Does the reminder contain a payment link?
It carries your own UPI ID as text, not a gateway link and not a QR image. The customer pays from any UPI app to that ID, and the money reaches your bank account directly with no percentage taken out.
Will a customer who already paid get a reminder by mistake?
No. Each customer's outstanding balance is checked at the moment the message is built, and anyone at zero is skipped and reported as having nothing outstanding.
What does a WhatsApp payment reminder cost?
Reminders are sent as utility messages, Meta's cheaper category, and Meta bills your own WhatsApp Business account directly — Tiram adds no per-message markup. Check Meta's current rate card for the exact price in your country.
Can I remind a customer about one specific bill?
No, and that is deliberate. Reminders quote the customer's total outstanding balance, because a message naming a single invoice invites a dispute about that invoice while the rest of the balance stays unpaid.
How do I know a reminder actually reached someone?
Each reminder has a delivery status, and every delivered one writes a dated Reminder sent line into that customer's credit ledger.
Do I need a paid plan for reminders?
Yes — WhatsApp sending is a Gold and Platinum feature. The receivables and khata screens the reminders are launched from work on Silver too.
